HTC One X Screen Repair

There are several variations of the HTC One X that are not compatible with each other. In particular, we were especially careful in avoiding the 720e whose replacement parts are of seeming abundance. Of course, the easiest method of identifying the HTC One X ATT models is by the carrier logo.

Before proceeding any further, carefully assess the state of your HTC One X screen. Keep in mind that these digitizers are intended to replace functional cosmetically damaged screens. Ideally, pictures are still visible; the touch screen is responsive, with no further deficiencies. Water damage, flashing, or fading are red flags indicative of substantially greater internal issues. Do not purchase this product if the screen is not fully functional or contains one of these red flags. Doing so is accepting an unnecessarily high risk that is unlikely to resolve the problem. Early on, we underestimated the significance of these criteria; assuming that we could refurbish a salvaged HTC One X lot by replacing the screen, only to discover that all of our efforts were wasted due to water damage and hardware issues. Such oversights can be very costly to say the least.

We would classify the repair process of medium difficulty due to the multitude of screws, connectors, internal battery, and internal components. It goes without saying that this will void any existing warranties. There is no heating or glass scraping involved seeing as the digitizer is already assembled, and no tools or special preparation is necessary beyond a pry tool and general purpose electronic kit. It invaluable to carefully study disassembling video tutorials in addition to the actual digitizer replacement videos beforehand due to the presence of fragile components and product specific instructions. Video tutorials are emphasized because visuals are preferable to written tutorials that may provide generic or incomplete instructions. Also, always ensure that the video tutorial is of the relevant model. It will be confusing if you should have the misfortune of following the instructions for the 720e, which is built completely differently. During our early attempts, we had to cross reference a screen protector installation video with the 720e and ATT version disassembling because there was not a single source at the time.

Removing the housing is a unique challenge in itself because the body does not contain screws. As such, it is very important to use the appropriate wedging tools to prevent dents from forming around the edges before prying forcefully, all while being mindful of the strip at the bottom. While it will almost feel as if the housing will break, the material is surprisingly sturdy. Be careful not to tear the strip at the bottom of the original LCD, as it will be necessary to reuse this component on the replacement. Keep in mind that it will require a much stronger adhesive than the strips to keep a gap from forming between the bezel and screen. Preventing this gap is perhaps the most difficult part.

It is worth mentioning that we have also refurbished the HTC One X with the LCD screen alone. It is of similar difficulty, but is considerably longer considering the removal of the frame components and heating of the screen. Between the additional time invested and the money spent, we would definitely consider the digitizer assembly to be of higher value. We would love to hear about your experiences in the comments section. Best of luck in your repairs!
